Pope Preaches Digital Communications

2009 May 22

Pope Benedict XVI is encouraging the world’s young people to use technology to spread the Gospel as part of World Communications Day, Sunday, May 24. This is revealed by Faith Comes By Hearing, a group working to record audio Bibles in 2,000 languages.

“I appeal to you, bear witness to your faith through the digital world,” the Pope said at his weekly address. “Employ these new technologies to make the Gospel known, so that the Good News of God’s infinite love for all people will resound in new ways across our technological world.”

Earlier this week, Faith Comes By Hearing, an audio Bible ministry, launched an audio Bible distribution program — Audio Bible Ambassador. It plans to start two million Bible listening groups by the year 2016, which would reach 97% of the world’s population.

“Audio Bible Ambassadors are people who are using technology to share audio scriptures online,” explained Troy Carl, Faith Comes By Hearing’s national director.

“Through this program, people can turn their computers into audio Bible distribution centers.”

Faith Comes By Hearing, an Albuquerque, New Mexico-based non-profit ministry, developed this program to equip Christians for online Bible ministry opportunities.
