Google Chrome vs. Hotmail

Google Chrome isn’t Hot for Hotmail
Have you tried to use Microsoft’s Windows Live Hotmail in Google Chrome browser? It’s not fit for Hotmail. That’s what Hotmail tells. First, I thought it’s a temporary warning – one of those that keep hitting your monitor without any provocation. But no; when I enter my password to check my hotmails, instead of smoothly going to the mails screen, Windows Live shows this warning message:

Upgrade your web browser
We recommend that you upgrade your web browser so you can get the most out of Windows Live Hotmail. Upgrading should only take a few minutes. To get started, choose one of the browsers below:

• Microsoft Internet Explorer
• Mozilla Firefox
• Apple Safari

If you don’t want to upgrade right now you can still continue to Windows Live Hotmail, but some parts of it may not work and it may not be displayed properly.

And you’d have observed that it recommends Explorer, Firefox, and Safari but not Google Chrome.

Is Google Chrome so primitive for Hotmail or is it just a reflection of corporate rivalry between the two web heavyweights?

Chrome will not let me compose a message in Hotmail. Do you have this same problem? I find it weird that I can not find any info on this. I have tried on two different PCs. Is there a Hotmail or Chrome setting that I need to change?

Yeah… I have also the same problem when using Chrome, its a good thing that I have firefox and explorer because if chrome fails I still have a back up web browser…. But my primary web browser is firefox, yeah its blazing fast but it crashes sometimes…. Then theres Internet Explorer, I only use IE as a last resort, yeah it has good protection (but not as good as firefox or chrome) but web page loading is kinda slow…. which irritates me…..

I have the same problem… I reckon its because Micro$oft doesn’t want Google muscling in on its browser area… but gosh Chrome is a great browser. MICRO$OFT LET GO AND LET US USE CHROME!

It is not hotmail; it’s chrome; its javascript support is shoddy. There are various other sites that it does not support, too. I’m using it as a primary browser but have to use firefox a couple times/day, since it works with everything.

I have the same problem. Google chrome is my default browser. All the times I’m obliged to use firefox or IE to be able to compose mails.
If nothing is done, probably I will be forced to remove chrome despite all opportunities it gives me.

Go into the property of the Google Chrome shortcut on your desktop, add the following extra tag to the path shown in target:

    –user-agent=”Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.19

When done, the path should look like:

    “C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe” –user-agent=”Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.19

The solution can easily be found on the web. I found it a few months back but forgot where I found it, though….
