NASSCOM Focus Areas

Steam for Software Business
At a time when Indian software firms are facing bugaboo-like threats from rupee appreciation, skills scarcity, infrastructure inadequacy, and competition from rival export markets, trade body NASSCOM suggests a remedy. It has just pulled out a roadmap for the local technology market to leapfrog in the global business race.

With NASSCOM’s 6-point Agenda for the Financial Year 2009, the association of software and IT-enabled services in India wants to focus on:

1. Creativity
To tap the opportunity for adding new revenues through product, process, and business model innovation
2. Community
To build communities of best practices that enable professionals to interact across organizational and geographical barriers
3. Collaboration
To continue collaboration with firms and industry associations in key markets and partner countries
4. Adoption of Green IT
To encourage environmental responsibility aided by search for greater productivity and competitiveness, while reducing waste and increasing efficiency
5. Societal Development and Inclusion
To strengthen rural areas as a complementary force to urban India’s capabilities in the industry. Gender inclusion and inclusion of diverse workforce in the IT-BPO sectors
6. Education and Skill Building
To continue focused efforts toward developing an employable workforce by scaling ongoing initiatives

Sounds impressive as lessons of a book or some political white paper. The challenge, of course, will be to take them from the drawing board to the battlefield. Is NASSCOM ready?
